Malawi’s First Vice President, Right Honourable Dr. Jane Ansah, JA (Retired), has called on citizens to unite in combating corruption, describing it as both a financial and moral crime that undermines human dignity.
Speaking at the Bingu International Convention Centre during International Anti-Corruption Day, Ansah said this year’s theme, “Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption”, complements the global campaign led by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”
She emphasised the crucial role of Malawi’s youth, urging them to reject dishonest and safeguard the nation’s future.
“Every misappropriated kwacha is a classroom unbuilt, a hospital unstocked, and a dream deferred,” she said, stressing that corruption erodes institutions, fractures unity, and robs citizens of opportunities.
Ansah reaffirmed government’s “Zero Tolerance Policy” on corruption, championed by His Excellency President Arthur Peter Mutharika, pledging reforms to strengthen the independence and capacity of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The Vice President assured continued government support and urged collective responsibility, thanking civil society, faith leaders, the private sector, media, and international partners for their role in strengthening the fight against corruption.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Honourable Charles Mhango, speaking earlier, stressed that corruption undermines not only public resources but also the dignity and future of Malawians.
