Administrator General's Department

The Administrator General is responsible for the administration of deceased estates and other trusts by obtaining letters of administration or when the Administrator General is appointed as an executor of an estate. The office was established under the Administrator General Act (Cap.10:01 of the Laws of Malawi). It is headed by an Administrator General who is a public office

The Administrator General's office may use District Commissioners (DCs) as its agents in as far as provision of deceased estate administration services are concerned. The use of DCs as agents does not preclude the Administrator General from appointing other persons or entities to act as its agents

The Administrator General remains an important institution which helps in devolution of property. In a country where the majority of the people die intestate, the role of the Administrator General cannot be over emphasized
