New Administrator General in town

At Ministry of Justice, we are absolutely delighted to announce the appointment made on August 12, 2024, of the new Administrator General, Kondwani Maxwell Jawati, aged 48.

Mr. Jawati, a distinguished lawyer with 15 years of exemplary service in the public sector, brings a wealth of experience in litigation, legislative drafting, legal research, negotiations, and corporate governance. His illustrious career includes providing technical assistance and authoritative legal advice to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies on a myriad of legal matters.

I bring with me exceptional professional communication skills at all levels within the workplace and with other stakeholders such as civil society, the private sector, and senior government officials. I also possess strong management, leadership, and team-building skills, enabling me to take initiative while effectively working as part of a team. I am committed to maintaining high-quality standards in achieving our defined goals,” says Mr. Jawati.

Mr. Jawati holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours from the University of Malawi, earned in 2008, and a Bachelor of Education from the same university, obtained in 2000. He has also acquired additional qualifications, including a number of certificates in Intellectual Property (IP) from the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), the United States Patents and Trademarks Office and the Japan Patents Office.

Before his appointment as Administrator General, Mr. Jawati served as Chief Legal Officer at the Ministry of Education, Legislative Counsel at the Ministry of Justice from 2017 to 2022, Senior State Advocate from 2015 to 2017, and Senior Assistant Registrar General from 2009 to 2015. As Assistant Registrar General, he administered industrial property laws (the Trademarks Act, Patents Act, and Industrial Designs Act), the Companies Act, the Business Registration Act, the Stamp Duty Act, and the Estate Duty Act.

The new Administrator General has previously served in several notable roles that include Disciplinary Committee Member of the Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations, Chairperson of the HIV/AIDS Workplace Committee at the Department of Registrar General, Member and Secretary of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Football Association of Malawi and Legal Advisor for Beach Soccer Malawi.

As the Administrator General, Jawati is responsible for administering deceased estates and other trusts by obtaining letters of administration. His department falls under the Ministry of Justice.
