Police Claims Accident Was Staged in Murder Case

Today, a Malawi Police Service (MPS) investigator revealed to the High Court in Lilongwe that a purported road accident, which claimed the life of Rwandese businessman Noel Emile Habimana, was staged.

Investigator Abel Mkandawire testified before the Court that Habimana was already killed before the staged accident.

As a State witness, Mkandawire disclosed that an autopsy on the deceased revealed the cause of death to be a blunt force trauma to the chest.

Habimana tragically passed away on October 17, 2022. His ex-wife, Giramata Gentile, and his driver, Rafiki Munyamagaju, were subsequently arrested and are now facing charges of his murder.

Earlier today, presiding Justice Bruno Kalemba led the Court on a visit to Kanengo Police to inspect the car purportedly involved in the so-called accident.

Thus far, the State, represented by Director of Criminal Litigation Dzikondianthu Malunda from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Chambers, has paraded nine witnesses in an effort to substantiate its case.

Counsel Khumbo Soko is representing the first suspect, Giramata Gentile, while the second accused, Rafiki Munyamagaju, is represented by Counsel Stanley Chirwa.

The Court has adjourned the case to December 18, 2024, for the continuation of the hearing.
