The High Court in Blantyre has today dismissed Mr. Norman Chisale's application to dismiss the forfeiture of property case before it, citing lack of merit.
Presided over by Justice Anneline Kanthambi, the court also denied Mr. Chisale's subsequent applications for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court and to stay the High Court proceedings, ordering that the case proceed on December 17 and 18, 2024.
The matter came for the delivery of the ruling on preliminary objections by the defendants, with the formal ruling to be made available on November 25, 2024.
The State, through the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Attorney General, are pursuing the forfeiture of Mr. Chisale's frozen property, estimated at over K5 billion, which is suspected to have been acquired through illicit means.
